Car Paint Steps, Tips, and Tricks

This time I do a little share of the basic steps, and some useful tips and tricks to help make your car's paint job is more successful. Before you begin, check into the local regulations regarding the spraying of paint in the home environment. Even if you decide not to do all the work yourself, you can still get a better paint job and / or save more money by doing the prep work yourself - use the following information.

One of the best tips we can give is to remove as much as possible from the top and trim around the area to be painted. If you are doing exterior paint job, this means trim, bumper, mirrors, grilles and other exterior items. If you are painting all or part of the interior, you'll have more to remove.

Next step is to thoroughly clean every nook and cranny (not just a painted field, but also any area that dirt can be dislodged from while painting. Start with detergent, and followed with a wax remover and quality of fat in the area to be painted. Then apply a layer of thick tape for each area such as windshield molding that may have been removed to protect these areas from sanding you will do next ..

Sand down the old paint (at least to the level of the original paint) using a dual-action (DA) orbital air sander, which is less likely to dig like other Sanders. In general, use fine sandpaper (higher number) of the 120 grit. You may need to use a coarse grit to remove rust or excess fillers. We will not go into details of the body repair (welding, filler, etc.) in this section, but it's clear, these repairs must be done in case of damage or rust. Even a tiny little hole must be properly repaired. Avoid the temptation to use a lot of acrylic glaze. Glaze surface is faster, but the thicker it takes much longer to dry and often shrink back a lot.

After a thorough cleaning of the car (and the mess you just created), it will be time for the mask of the car for the primer / filler coat. Masking is also one of the most important step for high-quality paint job. If you do not paint the trunk, engine compartment, etc., you must be careful in masking of areas of excessive spraying. Using materials or weatherstrip weatherstrip tape can even help to cover the joints between the body panels to prevent entry spray. Use a thin plastic tool like a plastic knife or spreader filler to force the tape under the edges of any remaining such as lis around the windshield or window moldings. Make sure you also mask off the tire and wheel wells, and form an apron around the bottom of the car to keep the excessive spraying of this area.

Now do one more wipe-down just before applying primer / filler coat. In addition to applying several thin coats of quality primer filler /, you should apply the guide coat. It is a thin layer of thin contrasting color primer / filler on top flavored last full coat primer / filler. When the car is block sanded (see next paragraph), guide coat is removed quickly from the high areas. In low areas, guide coat will remain visible. You will need to use your judgment about whether to sand the area is slightly higher, doing extra body, or (for a very small low area) adds a few extra coat of primer / filler and guide coat.
Wet sanding primer is generally carried out with 400 to 600 grit wet / dry sandpaper. Use a soft foam pads wrapped in paper for sanding curved field. For flat areas, use a rubber pad. Use a bucket of warm water and rinse the sponge to keep the area and sandpaper.

Although we did not mention it, at this point you may have removed most of the wet paper and paper tape used to mask off the car. If you do not do it now. When finished, clean the car thoroughly with clean water and wipe dry to prevent the car in the water of contaminants remaining in the primary. If you are not going to paint the color of the car immediately, or if you will transport the car to a different location for the final paint job, you should avoid getting any oil or contaminants on the surface. A layer of primer sealer is highly recommended if there is a chance of getting contaminated car. Remember all the work you do for the mask of the car. Well, it's all to do again. Also make sure that there is absolutely no excessive spraying primer on the surrounding area.

For the color coat and clear coat, follow the manufacturers instructions and apply paint thinner. In general, starting from the top and work your way down. Keep the gun 10 to 12 inches from the surface and as parallel as possible. Overlap the spray pattern of 33% to 75% from the previous pass. Use a medium wet coat that looks smooth and shiny, but not running. Start each stroke and pull the trigger before you get to the area to be painted, and do not stop or let go of the trigger until you pass through the area being painted.

okey guys, that's all I can share guys, .. may be useful ..!
